 steve hanson

Steve joined a small team of instructors in a training centre for adults with learning difficulties in 1993. His primary roll was to teach basic woodworking skills to his students. In the corner of the workshop was a redundant lathe which rekindled Steve’s enthusiasm which had been quelled by a less than encouraging school teacher. Steve took the opportunity to rediscover this interest at his own pace without unneeded criticism and discouragement. Within a year Steve was competing and placing along side some of Britain’s best woodturners. He sold his work on the craft fair circuit and in local shops and galleries.

The Turning Tree After Steve’s initial success he chose the name The Turning Tree to reflect what he did. In fact what most turners do; turn pieces of tree in to works of art, functional kitchen ware, and gifts of distinction. Occasionally of course they are turned in to ornate firewood.

The Turning Tree has evolved now as of 1994 Steve decided to offer private tuition in his own workshop. He has been doing this successfully as he continued to develop and improve his own work. The development of The Turning Tree has continued as has Steve and his work.

The Turning Tree moved to Mid Wales in 2002 Many things influenced this decision Steve’s love for the mountains of Wales. His desire to turn and teach full time, and not least the cost of property in Wales.

In 2004 Steve and The Turning Tree Moved again now to France this will be a permanent move but one which will make an all encompassing difference to Steve and his work. Look out for a new link to a site which will tell the story of the adventure in France its not just about woodturning.

The Register of Professional Turners Steve was entered on the register of professional turner as of 3rd April 2003
